The FLAHEC Network Community Health Worker (CHW) program, based on national models and in collaboration with community organizations, trains and supports community health workers (CHWs) who provide health promotion and disease prevention education for at-risk populations in medically underserved areas. CHWs are lay people that are trained to help individuals and groups take greater control over their health and their lives. They promote healthy living by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate education on disease prevention and by helping community members understand and access health and human service systems.
GNAHEC contributes the success of their CHW program to existing partnerships with community- based organizations, health departments and health centers that employ outreach workers. GNAHEC provides training, professional development and/or financial support to the community health workers who are dedicated to meeting the needs of their community. For more up-to-date information on the FLAHEC Network CHW Program and how GNAHEC can assist your organization in your health outreach activities in our five-county service area, please contact Maureen Guthke at (813) 929-1000.
